Organizing 101: The Family

Family Organizing

Happy Tuesday Friends!

So I heard all of your questions asking me how do I stay organized with being a wife, mom, blogger, party stylist. How do I juggle it all? Well I’m here to show you my routine and how I try my best to stay on top of things around these parts!

I put these systems in place because I am the type of person that does better with routines. My Type A personality is definitely all about being in control of what I can be in control of. With that said, I think we should do a organization series here. What do you think? I would talk about my different routines for meal planning, kids etc. If that works for you, just leave me a comment below or on social media and let me know what you think!

When I thought about organizing my family, I thought to use The Color Coded System. I have used this system for years and it works very well for us. I wanted to share in hopes that I could help another momma become a little more organized!

Lets talk about COLOR!!!

Anyone that knows me knows that I am not afraid of color! I prefer to keep things neutral at home and add a pop of color when I feel like it! The kind of color that I’m speaking of is Color Coding Your Family! What I do with my family is I take everyone’s favorite color and I use it to organize in my planner, our calendar at our command center and anything else that I think they’ll need to be organized with such as each folder, etc.

For example, my planner is my central area for organizing myself and everyone else. When I am writing down doctors or dental appointments for each child, I’ll use their color that I have for them and write that down in my planner. That way I know which child the appointment is for. I can’t tell you how many times I have forgotten to write something in my planner and it was devastating to me! I can’t do anything without a paper planner! Electronics are great, but they just don’t work for me. Which takes me to my next topic… Planners!

Paper Planners

I am a planner addict! I love planners that are functional. I am using two planners, The Happy Planner which I am absolutely IN LOVE with and The Day Designer by Whitney English that I use for business and blogging. When searching for a planner, I look for one that has a weekly as well as a monthly layout. Also one that will give me tons of writing space. The Happy Planner does that for me and is also wonderful because it comes with all these cute stickers that I can customize it with. You guys know I’m all about the pretty and the functional! Not only is it a beautiful and functional planner, but they have an awesome planner community and blog that has tons of suggestions and inspiration. It’s an awesome community to be apart of! The Day Designer that I have is for my serious part of life ha! Not that my family isn’t serious. What I mean is I use it for task that I know I need to grind extra hard on, but could tend to procrastinate or put off for another day! Yeah that’s what I use the Day Designer for. It’s such a good planner with a well thought out design and it also has lots of writing space and hourly time slots! We can talk more about planners later!

Meal Planning

This one here, is a life and sanity saver!! Shout out to the moms who are implementing meal planning and to the ones who want to!! I get soo excited about this! What I do in our household is, when I do my planning for the week on Sunday evenings ( after church, Sunday dinner and our naps ! ) I sit down and along with doing my weekly planning for everyone, I also do the meal panning for the week.

Family Organizing

Now why I meal plan weekly is because my husband gets paid weekly. So for me it doesn’t make sense to buy groceries for the month. This can be done with you also! If  you get paid bi-weekly, budget your groceries and plan your meals for two weeks or if you get paid monthly, budget your groceries and plan your meals for the month. Yes it is a lot of work on the front end, BUT it will save you so much time, money and energy! I plan on Sundays and I go to the grocery store on Mondays for the entire week and then I will cook something easy on Mondays such as grilled chicken salads or homemade pizza. We LOVE pizza!! So simple and easy and the sky is the limit to the toppings and flavors you can make! I will do an in-depth meal planning post in the next couple weeks.

I know this may sound like a lot, but trust me, it’s so worth making the investment to get organized!

MOMMAS!!  It is crucial and very important that you take a day for yourself!!! Not to only organize, but to do somethings you want to do also. When my kids were younger, I struggled with taking “me time” ! Shoot I felt downright bad about it, to be honest! I got over that because I learned that if I was tired, grumpy and all tapped out, I had nothing to give to my family. It is only when I’m  relaxed and rested that I’m able to give them my best! I also find that when I’m rested and relaxed my creativity is on another level too! Everything is clear and I can focus better.

Let me put this out here to THE WIVES!! Yes you girl! Don’t sacrifice time with hubby because your “schedule” isn’t complete or you feel like the kids need you more. To be totally honest, they don’t, but he does. Be sure to make your husband a PRIORITY because that’s just what he is! He is important too! Don’t forget to include time with him in your planning!

Well I hope I was clear in my explanations of things. Like I said before,  I’m going to do a more in-depth post on each on of these subjects over the next few weeks, so please stick around!

Until next time,

Love, Love Nicole
