Homemade Disinfectant Spray

Hey Friends!

I posted my homemade spray on my Instagram stories and asked did you all want the recipe and you responded with a resounding YES!

So as promised, I am coming to you today with the recipe for a homemade disinfectant spray!

You all know that I love to make my own cleaning products and I love natural ingredients mixed with a little bleach LOL!! It’s just the one product I cannot seem to get away from!

Anyhoo, with everything going on today with COV-19 things like Lysol and bleach seem to be a unicorn!

Well I have a spray that I have been using to disinfect my home with since Lysol has been almost impossible to find.

The spray is made up of a few ingredients you probably have lying around your home. Here are the ingredients.

  • Sidenote: Please make sure that you clean your surfaces before you disinfect them.

Alcohol – The CDC recommends that you use at least a 70% alcohol for disinfecting surfaces in your home. Check out the article here. This is your basic rubbing alcohol. This has been a precious commodity in the stores these days as well.

Vodka – At least a 90 proof. The stronger the better. Think Everclear!

Peroxide – This one is not necessarily needed if you are using the other two. If only using on of the alcohol’s, you can add just a tad of this to strengthen the disinfecting power.

Next up are the essential oils you’ll use. These are the one that I prefer to use because of the smell. You can use whichever ones you’d like you just need to make sure they have these properties.
  • anti-viral
  • anti-fungal
  • anti-microbial
  • antibacterial
  • antiseptic
  • deodorizing

Here are a few of the oils that have all or most of these properties.

  • Tea tree
  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Rosemary
  • Eucalyptus
  • Peppermint

I love to use this spray ALL over the house. A few places that I love to use it are some of the places that are the most touched places in the home.

  • light switches
  • door knobs and handles
  • toilet handles
  • faucets
  • trash cans
  • furniture such as sofas and pillows
  • shoes

The next part is super easy. Here is how you make the spray

1. Fill at least a 16 oz bottle with mostly alcohol.

2. Add your peroxide if you desire. 2-3 tsp is plenty.

3. Add your essential oils. You can add as many as you’d like. Here are the ones I use:

  • 30 drops tea tree oil
  • 15-20 drops lavender
  • 15-20 drops rosemary
  • 15-20 drops eucalyptus
  • 15-20 drops lemon

4. Shake your spray bottle and use!

There you have it! Easy disinfectant spray and it smells so good! Once you clean your surface, You will need to spray the disinfectant AND leave it sitting for a couple minutes in order for it to do its disinfecting job! Please let me know if you decide to try this!

THIS DISINFECTING SPRAY IS NOT FOR CONSUMPTION! PLEASE DO NOT PUT THIS IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR BODY!!

Chat with you all soon!

Stay Safe & Stay Home!

Much love,

Nicole
