Creating A Positive Atmosphere In Your Home Is Not Hard. It Just Requires A Little Effort and Love !

Happy Tuesday Friends !

I trust that you all had a wonderful and restful weekend! I’m sure that some of you have enjoyed a 3 day weekend also !

I wanted to share with you this #HomeMakerMonday on a Tuesday something that I truly believe in and that is creating a positive atmosphere in your home.

Positive atmosphere?

Yes !! Because there is a possibility of creating a negative one. We love our homes and family’s way too much and don’t want to do that, so we’re going to talk about the positive kind !

When I think of creating the tone or atmosphere for home, I envision everyone coming in and finding refuge, peace and comfort from the outside world. Your home should be the place where your family can’t wait to get to, but hates to leave when it’s time.

Over my years of Home Making, I know that this has been an area in my life where I’ve had to yield to God. Let’s just be real, some days I just don’t “feel” like it. I mean I really don’t and I’m sure I’m not alone in that. However, because this is my job and I’m the C.O.O of this household, I don’t get to check out like that. Neither can you friend !! So I’ve had to pray to ask God to help me do those things that would benefit not just my family, but anyone who enters our home and so that He’d be glorified at the end of the day.

So throughout the day, I’ll do certain things, so when my family or anyone comes here, they experience peace and joy while they’re in our home. Can’t you just see it? I sit back and see people while they’re in our home and I’m very grateful. They are comfortable, they feel peaceful and they SHOW it !!!

I recently had my mom and a friend over and both of them had the same compliment ” Your house is so peaceful “. I just grinned humbly and said “well thank you so much” . My hubby always says ” I can’t wait to get home to you ” !!!! If you could see how huge I’m grinning now lol !! I attribute that to how I go about my day in our home.

Here are a few things that I do to set a positive and peaceful atmosphere in our home and you can too!

Pray and/or sing while you go about your daily routine.

I will say that I haven’t always done this. Some days, I would be so frustrated about cleaning after people and they left their shoes downstairs etc. that I would forget about WHO I was doing this unto. This was more than just cooking and cleaning, this was and still is my worship to God. My service and sacrifice belonged to God and I was complaining and focusing on the wrong things (even though I thought they were valid lol). You guys know I’m a huge fan of the Bible and Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, do it with your WHOLE HEART as unto The Lord and not unto men. Well that helped to straighten me out lol !! It’s harder to do your job with an attitude when you know your boss is watching your every move ! So praying and singing or putting on my favorite worship music helps me to keep my heart and mind focused on the correct things.

Free up your space from distracting clutter. Have a place for everything.

I hate clutter y’all !! I feel as though if you have a cluttered house, your mind is cluttered too !! At least that’s how I feel when I have a little clutter at home. The definition of clutter means to fill or cover with scattered or disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness. So you see how that could be a problem in the home? First get rid of things you don’t need. Shred those unnecessary papers and try to have a place for everything. Don’t make storage solutions that cause you to hide the clutter lol, actually rid yourself of things you don’t need and implement functional storage solutions. I promise you’ll feel better, but your house will feel better as well and the people in your family will take notice too!

Make it smell good

You already know that how I feel about a good smelling home ! I tend to clean with products that have essential oils in them or I’ll make my own cleaning products, you can read about some of my favorite natural cleaners here. I’m talking about going to extra mile. Burn some great smelling candles or freshen the sir with a nice long-lasting air freshener. I love to burn aromatherapy candles before my husband comes home. I just love candles period as I’m sure so do you ! I recently purchased some new essential oils and I’ll be sharing that with you shortly !! You don’t have to do much or spend a ton of money either. If you’re looking for good products check sites like bath and body works for candle sales. Homegoods even had some great smelling candles and room sprays. You want to go even a step further ?!? Spray the sheets on your home as well !! I’ll be sharing a DIY linen spray with you this week !

Greet your family when they come in.

I know you might be thinking like what ?!? Yeah… there have been days when I’ve been so busy cooking or on a phone call or something and my husband or kids walk in the door and I say “hey honey” with really paying him or the kids any attention. Not a bad thing or something o intentionally did, but I was so focused on getting dinner ready or something else that I didn’t give my main people my undivided attention. So now I have to say ok they’re coming in stop what you’re doing a greet them and really give them your attention. Some days I still slip up, but we’re all works in progress and we’ll get there!

Lastly, focus on the right stuff.

By that I simply mean, the house being spic and span clean all the time at the expense of your family time is no-no. If your kids have chores, but they don’t do them to your liking or the way you may have done it, don’t fuss. I’ve done this. I was focusing on the wrong stuff. Instead praise them for their ability to do it their way. The main focus should be they did the chore. Don’t take away from the beautiful and loving atmosphere you have in your home by fussing all the time. Also, when you guys are sitting around as a family and the place is getting messy, don’t focus on that. The memories are many times hidden in the mess. So have your family time and let it be just that. You can always clean later. Just be sure to do so LOL !! That is something that you can do as a family also.

With all the craziness going on in the world, creating peaceful place for your family and friends to come home to is a wonderful thing !

So I hope I have shared some things with you that you may not have known or just didn’t think about. I am in no way an expert on these things, but I can share the things that work for us in hopes that it will help and encourage someone else.

Until next time,

What are some ways that you create a positive atmosphere in your home?

Enjoy your week friends
